#Composer – Jason McCabe

Thanks to KBS+ and Armoury for choosing Chrome Panther! as the background music for BMW USA’s live Periscope event, which was a first look at their limited edition 2016 BMW i3 Shadow Sport.

The live stream was shot at Mack Sennett Studios in Silverlake, Los Angeles. Because Periscope was the chosen platform to reveal the car, the production team was limited to the settings in the app and the iPhone 6s Plus. I worked with the amazing sound designer, Carrie Sheldon, to figure out how best to mix my backing tracks with the mic attached to the on-camera host who would be interacting with the Periscope viewers.

After trying a range of options from iRig Pro to hardwire splitters, we ended up attaching a small, bluetooth speaker to the stedicam rig so that the mixed sound could be up against the phone’s mic. Carrie was able to adjust the volume of my tracks underneath the host as he spoke, fading up or down. It was a challenge, but we pulled it off.
